The last day of this URJCmun 2019 began on SOCHUM committee. The last session of the committee that yesterday had to face two breaking news.

This last session has begun with an unmoderated 10-minute caucus in which delegates from different countries have taken the opportunity to seek a final solution to the crisis.

At the end of this time, Banglandesh delegate and Dominican Republic delegate jointly presented the final resolution. This resolution has continued the idea proposed yesterday, the countries will come together in three different groups to provide different kind of help: reception of refugees, financial aid or help from experts.

Once the resolution has been read, the questions have been answered. These have only come from Turkey, who were interested in knowing if the countries participating in the aid would also receive aid but Turkey has been denied but this aid since this country has already received sufficient help from the UN.

Then the vote was taken and an absolute majority was reached for the approval of the resolution with a total of 21 votes in favor of the resolution. They have only positioned themselves against the resolution of Angola, South Africa, Turkey and Thailand.

With the approval of the resolution by absolute majority, the session was closed and with it this new edition of URJCmun 2019.

The third day of this URJCmun 2019 began on SOCHUM committee, and with it thefifth session of the committee that on this day had three more sessions. On this third day the two groups of countries that yesterday were divided in search of solutions for Rohingya's conflict had decided to work together in search of common solutions due to the great similarity that their working papers had yesterday.

The Dominican Republic's delegate and the Pakistan's delegate have started the session explaining the resolutions that have been reached. This includes the demand for an education program, respect for Rohingya culture, adequate health care, physical and psychological rehabilitation for refugees once they arrive in their new country house, fight against human trafficking and crimes that include rape or abuse of human rights and a system that can provide the separation of Rohingya's families.

The countries who have supported this resolution have surpassed the majority (25) although some countries have opposed it such as Russia, Bangladesh, South Africa, Thailand and Libya have accepted the resolution but with reservations. The final resolution has been modified because some amendments have been addeed from countries like Iraq, Russia, Turkey and Bangladesh. After solving the Rahongy conflict, the new topic about enviromental migration has begun, those who are forced to migrate or be evacuated from their region of origin and are considered enviromental refugees. The beginning of the debate has been interrupted by two breaking news that have surprised the delegates of the different countries: a catastrophic inundation in the village of Saghata in Bangladesh along with the second breaking new that has created a new crisis for the countries.

The countries delegates have had to solve the problem of hurricane Helena
(category three) that has destroyed the Dominican Republic and goes to the north of Mexico and the south of the United States. After these surprising and shocking breaking news the delegate of Bangladesh through a speech has requested international help in the face of the situation his country is experiencing. To solve the crisis the Bangladesh's delegate has proposed
three different groups: hosting countries, financial aid and specialized experience in which the different countries will be grouped to solve this crisis. To join the different groups, the countries have been used an unmoderated caucus solicitated by Bangladesh.

During the two afternoon sessions but especially during the Consultation of the Whole we have seen two clearly differentiated groups: those countries that classify climate change as "fake new" or a lobby where the United States can't be absent supported by Turkey and Brazil. Other countries like Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic stand out struggle to raise awareness about the problem that is currently climate change and also the problem it supposed for future generations.

Although some countries make it clear that they won't welcome refugees or others who won't provide any financial aid, all must be aware and make the situation better within their borders by carrying out different measures that take care of the environment. The rest of the session was formed by moderated caucuses in which the same topics have been discussed but a common solution hasn't been reached, the session has been concluded at this point and tomorrow the delegates from the different countries should find a solution to these crises and a response to this enviromental migration.

A delegate explaining his argument. (Julia Arija)

A new day dawns in the SOCHUM committee and with it, a new session starts. The first topic proposed during the session that followed the trend set by the previous day have been the  creation of an economic plan for helping the refugees established in Bangladesh. A moderated caucus  proposed by the Dominican Republic has continued with the idea of creating a monetary fund intended for the necessary help to these refugees in terms of living conditions or transportation to their new home country.

It's ironic that these countries that must protect human rights at the expense of everything continue to focus more on economic and political issues than on human issues, this has been exposed by the delegate of Bangladesh and Venezuela, who insisted that countries are  treating people as if they were objects.

Bangladesh's delegate asks the whole room a question that leads us to a reflection on the Rohingya problem. Why are these people living in Bangladesh?

A genocide is taking place with this ethnic group, as the delegate of Turkey points out. In response to these statements, the delegates of Myanmar and Russia try to defend the illegality and terrorism of these citizens who alter the security of the country.

But, what really should matter and prevail in this committee is the defense of citizens and their rights because of this, Venezuela proposed a new caucus moderate about the separation of Rohingya families in Bangladesh's frontiers. Although, for some countries like Russia, Myanmar or the Dominican Republic there are other political or economic factors that should be solved first.

Germany's delegate insisted on concern other delegates for the defense of human rights and the separation that is taking place of the Rohingya families. Create a field on the border of Myanmar for the Rohingya? This has been one of the solutions proposed by the delegate of Thailand, if this minority is not accepted as citizens of Myanmar it is clear that they need a solution, a place to live safe and in peace.

This afternoon, the SOCHUM committee has started a new session with a Consultation of the Whole proposed by Thailand. This is the first time it takes place in all the sessions that we have in the committee.

Thailand offers the solution to establish a representation of Rohingya in the government of Myanmar but this is so difficult because they are not recognized as citizens. Bangladesh  repeated that it doesn't have enough infrastructures to receive more refugees so it's clear that they need a solution urgently.

Inter-country unions have been established to develop a working paper with the resolution to be exhibited at the new session tomorrow, these coalitions are made up of: China, the United Kingdom and Japan. Against: Myanmar, Russia and the Dominican Republic.

During this last session, Brazil has requested that the representative of Venezuela leave the room because of the current situation in the country. Following the Venezuela's delegate left the session, the Indonesian delegate has made a speech about what it means to live in a country where freedoms, security, or democracy are lacking as well as the need for change. The speech was quite emotional and provoked the ovation of the whole room at the end.

The unmoderated caucus have continued during the session and tomorrow a resolution on the Rohingya conflict will be reached.

Indian delegates in SOCHUM (Julia Arija).

At the beginning of the morning, all delegates from different countries in the committees received a speech about  the conflict between Myanmar’s majority Buddhist population and the Rohingya, a primarily Muslim group, has its roots in centuries of history, but has being worse in recent years.

The conflict is being considered as a genocide carried out against this ethnic group that the country itself qualifies as immigrants and close their borders by preventing their entry and forcing their emigration, becoming refugees who mainly go to Bangladesh, Malasia, Indonesia, Tailandia looking for help.

In the middel of this human tragedy, the greatest expectation -and also the greatest disappointment- have been the current State Councilor and Nobel Peace Prime winner 1991, Aung Sang Suu Kyi. It is ironic, someone with a Nobel peace prize is allowing this violation of human rights, favoring a military government in charge of closing the country's borders to this population considered as immigrants and lacking rights such as:  they are not allowed to go to school , neither have more than one child or having an adequate healthcare.

The 0 session  has started with Myanmar's prupouse to start a discuss about the borders of their country. The country has insisted that they won't accept any type of illegal immigrants. To supporting this idea, the delegate  insist that Rohingya encourage terrorism. The Dominican Republic supports Myanmark's initiative and astutely uses the United States, a great power that doesn't want to accept inmigrants. Rohyngia is also supported by  Russia and China, they argue that it is better to let the government of Myanmark act.

The next point of discussion has been proposed by the delegate of Pakistan, this was to look for an alternative solution to Rohingya crisis.

Myanmar, Russia and Chinaa  have defended the idea that the initiatives of their Security Council that must be accepted internationally. However, some countries such as Australia or Canada are allowed to receiving refugees. Other countries have remained  of welcoming refugees such as Japan or the United States. This point of debate has ended with Pakistan focusing on the idea of giving an opportunity to this ethnic before expulsing them and the delegates tells Myanmar that even if it doesn't  accept this ethnic group as citizens of his country, Myanmar use to allow other international countries interested in  host the refugees.

The next point of discuss comes through the proposal of the delegate of Côte d'Ivoire.  Two countries which are United Kingdom and Indonesia, has been an idea to create an economic fund  to provide the necessary help to the principal house country of these refugees, Bangladesh and to the Rohingya. The United States has also offered to provide monetary assistance but this has generate critics from other countries.

Finally, the session ended with a proposal from Nepal to hold a unmoderaded caucus. All the delegates have come together to discuss different points, so tomorrow the session will continue at this point.
