See you soon, URJCmun

Last day of URJCmun. Tomorrow, some of us will wake up in the morning and, sleepy, will think of getting ready to come to Móstoles again, just as we have done these four astonishing, memorable days. But we won’t be that lucky.
What about DISEC? The delegate from Pakistan came in with a bow tie. The day started strong. Remarkable things were meant to happen today. The session of debate started with no more, no less, but the invasion of Estonia. Orchestrated by Russia.
BOOM.
After the British Intelligence, Russia had invaded Estonia and the USA and Japan had attacked with nuclear weapons Manchuria… Everything was suddenly a mess at DISEC. Nonetheless, the committee in charge of disarmament approved a very peaceful resolution to almost start the Third World War. The working paper was promoted by Turkey. Once the resolution had passed, the delegations who disagreed to the approval left the committee. Everything happened in thirty chaotic minutes but was the grand finale for the formal session. It was in fact surrealistic.
Being done with the formal debate, we went onto the formal and informal sessions and the last deliveree of carnations. The awards were fairly given. The delegate of Venezuela deserved the Best Delegate award. Turkey was also rightfully given the Best Delegation recognition and, finally, the “guy” from Pakistan received the award for Honorable Mention.
The informal session and awards are also to be highlighted. After some of them were given the title of “cuttest”, “sexiest” or “best dressed delegate”, all the delegates met the expectations when told to fulfil the punishments.
Thousands of photos between the delegates were taken too and, finally, we were ready to watch the clausure ceremony video. We had the pleasure to watch it with the current and future Secretariat of the model. Still, we were not ready yet to say goodbye to URJCmun 2021.
As it is not easy at all to wave goodbye to those you admire, it was tough for us to come to terms with the ending of the model. We have all slightly, possibly, hopefully, definitely enjoyed ourselves. But it does not have everything to do with joy, but with personal growth, ambitions, values and intentions. Those are keys, the real engine of our restless spirit. I can only congratulate every single person that took part in the model and hope they loved it here.
There is one one thing left to say: THANK YOU. Thank you for making this model possible. Thank you for believing in making changes. Thank you for everything you mean to us as years go by. See you soon, URJCmun.

Resolution being signed, third day being done
15 de abril de 2021, Inés Astigarraga
The committee of DISEC woke up a bit lonely since many of the delegations were either missing or not complete. Rumour has it some of them spent too much time yesterday pillow-talking about nuclear weapons.
Procrastinators or perfectionists? The delegates wanted to finish their working papers during the first sessions. Last moment details were to be made on both drafts, which took longer than expected. The two blocks or sides needed time to outline the most remarkable aspects and clauses of their corresponding working papers. This was no big deal, since it is acknowledged that no good thing comes without an effort.
Hence, several unmoderated caucuses were needed in order to write the final documents. In the end, both working papers were shown and voted. After almost a hundred questions on the procedure of the voting, amendments were made. This made the debate a bit slow and tedious but was key for everything to work out.
After the lunch break, it was finally time to vote on the final resolutions. The first one to be voted was the one sponsored by Turkey, the United States of America, France, Germany and Japan, and signed by almost all the delegations. When voting, it got eighteen votes for it, so it clearly passed, which was of great satisfaction for almost all the delegations at the committee. Opposing countries to this resolution such as Pakistan, Venezuela, Iraq or the DPRK, wanted to stand out the lack of concern the approved resolution showed towards especially sensitive to nuclear weapons zones such as Cachemir or the Korean Peninsula.
It is to be praised the interest in international matters and actual problems these delegates show. There are great things in store for them.
“Mind the first person, delegates”. Unfortunately, we live in such an individualistic world, but that must not distract the delegates from the real purpose of URJC mun, which is to work together as a whole and try and solve conflicts. This must always be done bearing in mind the sovereignty of every nation and their right to decide upon their own matters.
The main character at the last session has been the second topic. The delegates have started the debate by stating their positions on the relationship between disarmament and development. We will continue tomorrow with this interesting matter, as there are a lot of aspects and things that could be done to reduce the gap in development between countries around the world.
But not everything is so serious at the model. Gossips have gone one step ahead at DISEC, the delegates have danced and laughed with one another. Punishments for being late have been hilarious and promises for small parties have been made.
But every single good thing in life has an end, and some of the delegates left the room with a bittersweet feeling because tomorrow, URJC mun 2021 will come to its end.

Second parts can surely be great

Same campus, same eagerness; different day, different delegations. Unfortunately, some delegates could not make it to the model today and lost the opportunity of a great day of debate and peace-giving sun.
At the committee of DISEC, the debate on the topic of eradication of nuclear weapons worldwide has gone three steps ahead. Dynamism has been the main character of the different sessions. At the end of the day, there were two working papers almost ready. For the moment, one side we have: Turkey, United States, Germany, Japan and Norway, among others. On the other side, Pakistan, Venezuela, Iran, Russia, China, Mexico, India and DPRK, to name some of them, are seeking for points in common to write a definitive resolution.
The different countries aim is to seek for alliances to come up with solutions for problems related to nuclear weapons, especially in the Middle East. It is precisely there where the different nations want to promote a free weapons zone. Sanctions and incentives for those countries that do not meet the standards on denuclearization have also been discussed.
Although some delegates were more keen on sending notes and gossips than on participating in the debate itself, the discussions on the different topics went better than expected, considering the fact that for many delegates, this is their first model. On the other hand, there are a few delegations which help develop the debate with their frequent interventions.
Unfortunately, one of the hardest but biggest truths one realizes when coming to a mun, a slightly less serious version of a United Nations session of debate, is that everything that’s discussed here is barely useful. It is of course useful for us, but not for the world. The resolutions won’t be taken into account by those who can actually change the established. If the world and those in charge do not want to listen, they simply will not. That is a tough lesson one learns at the model. Still, as it has always been, our purpose is to learn and to go in depth in international conflicts and actual obstacles to peace and freedom ought to be solved. The world is facing urgent problems and people need solutions.
The coffee break, the lunch time and the different moments in which everyone has been able to rest have helped all of us to refresh our ideas and to meet with our fellows from previous models. Because that is one of the so-called good things of URJCmun, the people you know here eventually becomes your family. Great friends at the very least.
Not only the debate level has risen, but the gossips are each time funnier and, who wouldn’t say, hotter. Extraoficial alliances are beginning to flourish. Acting and dancing stars are starting to shine. What can we not expect of the following days at DISEC!

Disarmament or development, that is the question
13 de abril de 2021, Inés Astigarraga
First sneaky glances, first rushed walks. Finally, URJCmun is back! The ninth edition of the model has started a little bit abruptly and the nerves were at some point on edge. However, the day has gone smoothly.
The delegates of DISEC, the committee of the United Nations in charge of coming up with solutions to fulfill worldwide disarmament and development, have displayed a great performance for a model first day.
Second World War. Cold War. North Korean and other countries opacity regarding weapons. Treaties on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons… None of these historical events have been enough to prevent nations from keeping on using nuclear and massive weapons. This is, nonetheless, what DISEC delegates are here to talk about. It is through debate that they will hopefully come to solutions to these important matters.
Development has everything to do with disarmament. If we devote our money to investing in weapons, there will be less funds left to assist and promote development between the nations that are most in need of urgent help.
Still, one of the most important topics on the agenda has been discussed at the very beginning of the afternoon session: the so-called dilemma, pizza with, or without pineapple? This small although hilarious debate has helped the delegates break the ice.
Cloudy outside the building… But also lack of clearance in DISEC delegates minds? Definitely not. Although it was the first mun for some of them, all of them have done a great job. Despite it being the first day, all of them were willing to speak and the debate went off without a hitch.
Special mention to the feng shui garden the Japanese delegation has brought to “harmonize the committee”. Also, it has been a great point for the Russian Federation delegates to bring with them the very well-known picture of President Putin with a bear when hunting. The delegates, in general, seem to have understood the main purpose of the model: perform well and have a great time.
For all of us who enjoy participating in URJCmun, one of the best parts is when gossips are read and carnations sent and punishments take place. I will leave it to the reader to decide whether this is more a symbol of human romantic or nastiness.
We will meet the following days and expectations on this model are hoped to be met too. For the moment, everything we can do is make the most of our time here. And write gossips and send carnations!
“Project your voices” to the world and hope someone’s listening. That’s the main purpose of the mun, to speak aloud and make ourselves heard. We are ready for what’s coming and we’re willing to thrive and make the world develop. Stay tuned and stay ready, my dear mun enthusiastics, our lives have just started.
