Abstination, Be faithful and Condom

SESSION 7

The last day of the URJC MUN has been quite restless. The fatigue of the previous dyas and the night parties have clearly influenced on the spirit of the delegates.  Maybe due to this or maybe to the change of building, at least 5 delegates who arrived late to Vicálvaro have had to dance the King Africa’s mythical song: “Bomba”.
After this opening, most morning has been of unmoderated caucus for the elaboration of the working papers which were started on the sixth session about VIH disease. There has been a coalition between Nigeria and Russia who have worked separately to the rest of the UNDP Committee on the mesures for a resolution.
We can highlight the Consultation of the Hall opened by India about the use of condoms. This measure is not the best option according to India’s delegation who has insisted on the ABC program (Abstination, Be faithful and Condom). On the other hand, the USA and South Africa have pressed on the efficiency of condoms and have denied the success of faithfulness on countries with polygamy culture.
Before the coffee-break the list of funny awards to the delegations has been exposed, in order to be given on the last session.

SESSION 8
The final session of the UNDP has been both emotional and enjoyable. The motion for presenting the draft resolution 2.2 has passed soon.  Three delegates have exposed a list of 27 measures signed by the majority of the countries: Japan, Botswana, South Africa, USA, Costa Rica, China, Cuba, South Korea, Netherlands… Between the main points we can distinguish the promotion of confidential health professionals, the protection of social minorities rejected and special attention on the transference of the virus from mother to child, focusing of the information provided about lactation to women affected.
This draft has just been questioned by Russia, who has seriously accused the USA of the creation of the virus as a biological weapon. Afterwards, Russia and Nigeria have presented the draft resolution 2.1, whose ideology has not been supported. Several delegations have asked about the place of human rights on this resolution. Luxembourg has insinuated if the “control of affected groups” was referring to possible murders. Costa Rica and Japan have linked up these measures as the imposition of Sharia or the defense of criminal organizations as Boko Haram.
Luxembourg delegation has proposed a motion for voting the resolution 2.2 after an amendment made by Botswana. The rol call votation has resulted 22 votes in favor, and 2 votes against (Russia and Nigeria), so the resolution 2.2 has clearly been approved.
The tension between Russia and the USA has become evident after USA intervention: “You hate us because you aren’t us” and  with the military caucus of the USA, including a threat of closing the Moscow embassy and furthermore, a military intervention to the Russian Republic.  On this try of rewriting history, Russia has answered: “We are ready this time,  we will see you on the battlefield.”
Costa Rica has been the last to close finally the debate after three apassionating days of discussion, agreements and disagreements, but after all of learning.
Eventually, the unofficial prizes have been given to the delegations, including the hottest and best dressed man- for Denmark, the most annoying and most likely to become a dictator- Costa Rica, the most likely to end in jail- Saudi Arabia, and the flirting delegation- United States of America. With laughs but internal sorrow, the gossip box has been read for the last time.
See you on the next MUN!
